Move to Sale Creek from Soddy Daisy Why did Rivergate move from the new building in Soddy Daisy to Sale Creek? About the time Rivergate finished the new building on Dayton Pike in Soddy Daisy, Wal-Mart announced they were putting in a Supercenter just down the street on Dayton Pike, with lots of out-businesses around them. This made the value of property in the area jump way up as the business center of Soddy Daisy suddenly moved to that area of Dayton Pike. And taxes jumped up along with it. City and county taxes went to $100 per WEEK on the new Rivergate Building. Interest rates pushed costs up too. So, in the fall of 2006 it became obvious that the Rivergate property on Dayton Pike was more valuable to other types of businesses than to the primarily mail order Rivergate. The expensive property was adding costs but no value to our primary products.
How did this community get the name Sale Creek? Well, despite the fact that a large boat harbor on Sale Creek has a huge number of Sail Boats, it is Sale Creek – not Sail. The name dates to the Revolutionary war, one of the oldest English-language place-names in this area of Tennessee. See the Historic Marker below for how it got this name. |
