Chattanooga Region SCCA
Road Racing

Road Racing is wheel to wheel racing on closed road circuits such as Road Atlanta. These are speed events where roll cages, fire suits, and competition license are required. Our form of road racing is also know as Club Racing. As the alternate name implies, this form of racing is more for fun than for money. The drivers, crews, and officials are involved just for the fun. And there is lots of fun to be had.

Road Race at Road AtlantaThe Chattanooga Region does not have a track suitable for road racing but their are lots of people in the region involved in the sport. They travel to Road Atlanta, Roebling Road, and Memphis Motors Sports Park most often. They aren’t just drivers but officials (or workers) and crew members.

Races are organized and run almost exclusively by a skilled force of SCCA Volunteers. SCCA licenses these trained volunteers in such specialties as Flagging & Communication, Race Control, Radio Tech, Registration, Scrutineering, Sound Control, Starters, Stewards, and Timing & Scoring. SCCA licensed workers are so highly skilled that other racing organizations (Indy Car, IMSA) use these volunteers in conducting many of their races.

The corner workers have a particularly good vantage point for the races. They are close to the track and can see all that goes on. They warn the drivers of danger and help when things go wrong.

The crew helps keep the car going and gets the satisfaction of being involved. Seeing your car do well is gratifying even when you are not the driver. The drivers greatly appreciate the event workers and their crew members..

The Chattanooga Region Road Racers are competing for Road Racer of the Year. This is based on a points system that will hopefully balance success in the large classes with the wins of the sparse classes.

Several of the road racers are competing for SARRC (Southern Atlantic Road Racing Championship) or ECR (Endurance Championship Race) points in the Southeast Division of the SCCA. Some are just racing for fun.

Road Racers must attend two driver schools before they start racing. Someone thought a Timetable for the Beginning Racer would help get the student to their first school.
